Tympanoplasty is a surgical procedure that focuses on repairing a defect (or hole) in the tympanic membrane—usually with a graft. The purpose of this surgery is to fix the hole and improve hearing. Doctors will only resort to this technique if nonsurgical methods are ineffective.
