Thomas G. Takoudes, M.D.

Dr. Takoudes graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover, MA, before receiving a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He received his medical degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City and completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York.

While in medical school, Dr. Takoudes completed a National Institutes of Health–sponsored basic science research fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology. He is board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery and is a member of both the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy and the Triological Society.


Dr. Takoudes is an attending surgeon at Yale-New Haven Hospital and the Hospital of Saint Raphael. He is the consulting otolaryngologist to Gaylord Hospital, specializing in the treatment of trauma and long-term tracheotomy patients.


His office-based practice focuses on all aspects of otolaryngology–head and neck surgery, including pediatrics; sinus, laryngeal, and ear disease; and tumors of the head and neck. He has special expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of laryngeal reflux and swallowing disorders. He has lectured and published extensively on these topics and performs office-based swallowing exams and transnasal esophagoscopy.


In addition, Dr. Takoudes has been recognized by U.S. News-Castle Connolly as one of America’s Best Doctors.
